Cultural Note

Citizen Kane, a movie (1941) by U.S. director Orson Welles. Repeatedly nominated as one of the greatest movies of all time, it is the story of the rise and the tormented private life of a fictional media baron, Charles Foster Kane (supposedly based on the life of the billionaire publisher William Randolph Hearst). The film's many stylistic innovations include the use of mock-newsreel footage and striking deep-focus photography.
