Definition:
 
1. transitive verb cut something up with sharp tool: to cut something into pieces with downward strokes of an ax, knife, or other sharp-bladed tool
chopped a few carrots

2. transitive verb cut something off: to use a quick sharp blow or blows to sever or fell something
chopped down the tree

3. intransitive verb make chopping movements: to make downward cutting movements with a tool or with the hand
