cheese

cheese [ cheez ] (plural chees·es)

noun
Definition:

1. solid food made from milk: a food made from the pressed curds of the milk of cows, sheep, goats, and some other animals. It can range from hard to semisoft, and from mildly acidic to sharp. Bacteria and acid are added to separate the milk into lumps curds and a watery liquid whey. The curds are then drained and used to make cheese.

2. whole cheese: an individual block of cheese

[ Old English cēse, via Germanic < Latin caseus]
