rear part of brain: the part of the brain located directly behind the front part cerebrum, typically consisting of two hemispheres connected by a thin central region, and serving to control and coordinate muscular activity and maintain balance. In humans, it lies between the back of the medulla oblongata and the underside of the posterior part of the cerebral hemispheres.
