Definition:
 
1. variant of rummy: a variant of the card game rummy played with two 52-card decks. Players are dealt 15 cards, the goal being to collect groups of seven similar cards.

2. set of cards: a point-scoring set of cards in canasta

[Mid-20th century. Via Spanish, "basket" < Latin canistrum, because two decks of cards (a "basketful") are used]
