Cultural Note

The Call of the Wild, a novel (1903) by Jack London. Noted for its unsentimental portrayal of pioneer life, it is the tale of a dog, "Buck," who is sent to the Yukon to work as a sled dog. After demonstrating his strength and courage in the service of humans, he takes to the wild with a pack of wolves.
