Definition:
 
1. measuring instrument: an instrument used to measure the internal or external dimensions of objects and consisting of two curved hinged legs joined at one end ( usually used in the plural )

2. measuring instrument for large objects: a measuring instrument with a fixed arm and an arm that moves along a graduated scale, used for measuring the diameter of large cylindrical objects such as logs

3. U.K. leg brace: a leg splint consisting of metal rods and straps that enables the hip bone, rather than the foot, to support weight when walking
