Definition:
 
1. attack somebody or something with missiles: to attack an enemy or enemy territory intensively with sustained artillery fire or bombs

2. hit somebody repeatedly: to attack somebody persistently and vigorously

3. overwhelm somebody: to direct toward somebody something such as questions or requests in great quantities

4. physics hit something with high-energy particles: to direct high-energy particles against atoms or nuclei
