aural

au·ral [ áwrəl ]

adjective
Definition:

of hearing or sound: relating to the ear or hearing, or to receptiveness and response to speech or other sounds
the extent to which our visual and aural perceptions of painting and music depend on our prior knowledge of the pieces

[Mid-19th century. < Latin auris "ear"]

au·ral·ly adverb

Word Usage
aural or oral?

These two words are often confused because they are pronounced in a similar way and have meanings that are close. Essentially, aural has to do with hearing, whereas oral has to do with speaking or the mouth. An aural test is an examination testing comprehension by listening, whereas in an oral test the answers are spoken rather than written.
