Definition:
 
1. transitive and intransitive verb change: to make changes to something or somebody, or be changed or become different
We'll have to alter our plans.

2. transitive verb adjust garment for better fit: to make adjustments to a piece of clothing so that it fits better
The pants are fine, but the jacket will have to be altered.

3. transitive verb North America castrate animal: to castrate or spay an animal ( informal )
