1. deciduous tree: a deciduous tree or bush with male catkins and cone-shaped fruits, common in wet places. Native to: northern temperate areas.  Genus Alnus.

2. wood of alder: the rot-resistant wood of an alder tree. Use: in underwater structures, carving, furniture making.
