1. wearing away: the process of wearing away by friction

2. dermatology scraped area of skin: an area on the skin, or some other surface of the body, that has been damaged by scraping or rubbing

3. geography wearing away of rock: the erosion of bedrock by continuous friction caused by rock fragments in water, wind, or ice
