Six-Day War:
The Six-Day War was fought June 5-10, 1967, between Israel and the Arab states of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Israel made a preemptive attack against a threatened Arab invasion and conquered the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Golan Heights, which became collectively known as the Occupied Territories. Israel also reunited Jerusalem under its control. Israel's military success did not stop future fighting, however. Much of the peace process involving Israel, the Palestinians, and neighboring countries for the past few decades has attempted to resolve disputes concerning the Occupied Territories.
