Dean Acheson:
(1893-1971), American statesman. His recommendation to President Lyndon B. Johnson in March 1968 that the United States pull out of the Vietnam War was a major factor in the president's decision to halt bombing over North Vietnam. Acheson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964.
