Bactria
- ancient country in Central Asia, in what is now part of Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. It was an eastern province of the Persian Empire before its conquest by Alexander the Great in 328 bc. After his death it became a state ruled by his successors, the Seleucids.
